We have plenty of room for wheel-throwers, hand builders, slip casters, mould makers, independent makers, those who are just having fun and those who are here to learn. There are 12 pottery wheels, plenty of table and shelf space, 2 electric kilns, a selection of tools and moulds, and 15 glazes and engobes to choose from.
Clays & Firing Temperatures
At ClayMake Studio we use only Stoneware clays. Due to easy identity mix-up and contamination we prefer not to have earthenware clay in the studio. For your convenience we stock several clays:
SWS - Clayworks - 10kg bag An excellent, white, 80 mesh, porcelain stoneware body with extra tooth that makes it ideal for throwing and hand building. Shrinkage: Wet to fired: 11%
PB103 - Walker Ceramics - 10kg bag Beautifully plastic, fine, 120 mesh versatile off-white production body with great glaze fit. Ideal for throwing and handbuilding Shrinkage: wet to dry: 3.4%, dry to 1300c: 8%
BRT - Feeneys -12.5kg bag Beautiful strong plastic body, suitable for hand building and sculpture.Dark speckled mottle when fired in oxidation Shrinkage: wet to dry: 2.2%, dry to 1300c: 4%
Fine Cream Clay - 10kg bag Blended from clays sourced in WA Manufactured by Kim Lyons Pottery

J-Cast casting slip - Keanes Porcelaneous Casting Slip, J Cast is made wholly from Australian materials.It has favorable casting, fettling and green strength qualities and excellent glaze fit. Shrinkage: 1280c: 12%
All firings are in electric kilns. Bisque firing is to 1000c and glaze firing to 1270c.
Charges for the firings are calculated by volume. ClayMake Studio students and members receive 20% discount on all firings.
