We have plenty of room for wheel-throwers, hand builders, slip casters, mould makers, independent makers, those who are just having fun and those who are here to learn. There are 15 pottery wheels, a slab roller, 3 extruders, plenty of table and shelf space, 3 electric kilns, a selection of tools and moulds, 14 glazes, and engobes to choose from.
Clays & Firing Temperatures
At ClayMake Studio we use only Stoneware clays. Due to easy identity mix-up and contamination we prefer not to have earthenware clay in the studio. All the clay stocked at ClayMake is made in Western Australia. For your convenience we stock several clays:
Good Clay Essential White - 10kg bag A versitile white plastic clay, ideal for wheel throwing & hand-building. Shrinkage wet to fired - 13%
Good Clay Alabaster - 10kg bag A fine, white porcelaneous clay, with translucency at high fire. Shrinkage wet to fired - 14%
Good Clay Essential Speckle - 10kg bag Essential White, Now with added speckle. Shrinkage wet to fired - 13%
Kim Lyons Buff - 10kg bag Cream colour with lovely blush
Kim Lyons Ironstone - 10 kg bag Chocolate brown, smooth lovely throwing clay body
FIRING
All firings are in electric kilns. Bisque firing is to 1000c (cone 06) and glaze firing to 1270c (cone 9).
