Membership FAQs
Can beginners join?
Of course! We encourage people of all levels of experience to become a ClayMake member.
If you’re an absolute beginner you may want to start with a course in order to learn the ropes, but you’re welcome to become a member straight away. There will always be someone around to ask questions, you’re not alone!
Membership is available for people over 16 years of age.
What kind of tutoring will I get?
ClayMake Studio membership/drop-in sessions are designed for independent working. There will be a member of staff around to answer questions and give advice, but there will be no active structure. If you feel you need more guidance there are various courses and workshops to choose from.
What does the induction cover?
Everyone is required to go through induction before using the studio. The induction covers studio etiquette as well as OHS procedures. We want to make sure everyone understands how to use the studio properly and safely.
We will require you to undertake another induction as our policies are updated.
Does cost of membership include firing?
No, you are charged for what you use. We didn’t think it fair people firing one object paying the same as someone firing a dozen.
Members get a 20% discount on firings compared to non-members. People attending per session will be required to pay outside firing rates.
Can I bring my own clay/materials?
Yes. We do however need to make sure that they fire to stoneware temperatures. We bisque fire to 1000 C and glaze fire to 1280 C. You will need to show us the packaging before we will put the work in the kiln. If you are bringing your own tools/equipment we recommend marking them clearly so that they don’t get mixed up with others.
Can I bring work I made at home to be fired?
Yep!
