Learn all about glaze chemistry – what each glaze material contributes to the mix, and how to adjust glazes to either correct defects or to make special effect glazes, with UK ceramist and author Linda Bloomfield.
Participants will choose, make and test their own base glaze (be in matte, gloss, or special effect), as well as using oxides to create line blends. After firing students will review, discuss, and receive feedback on their results, leaving with a better understanding on how glazes work and the knowledge to enable them to create and refine glazes on their own.
The workshop is suitable for all levels, but will be especially useful for intermediate makers who already have glaze making experience and are interested in developing special effects.
All glaze materials, and equipment are provided. Test tiles will be provided, but if you’d like to test on a specific stoneware clay, please bring your own.
Tests will be fired in an electric kiln going to cone 9.
